They kept following and flying in pairs at great speeds throughout my walk. Beautiful birds. Beautiful song.
Hi there!
I read your post with much interest this evening as I am always seeking information on birds that isn’t strictly related to scientific literature, but as a dedicated birder and follower of facts I have to take exception to one of your comments above! Your statement: “Blackbird is part of the thrush family, and it is native to Asia, Europe and America. They are famous for their melodic voices, and you can hear them the entire day,” is actually incorrect in relation to the Red-winged Blackbird, but understandable for a couple of reasons.
The Eurasian Blackbird (Turdus merula), is indeed a member of the thrush family but it is in no way related to the Red-winged Blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus) which is the focus of your post. The Red-winged Blackbird is a member of the family Icteridae which includes Orioles, Grackles, and yes…blackbirds! “Blackbird” is a term used for many unrelated birds around the world simply because of color, but has no bearing on actual relationships between the species.
I’m not here to take away from your very interesting post, I just thought you might want to know that the Eurasian Blackbird and the Red-winged Blackbird are quite different birds!
Peace,
Chuck- Cleveland, Ohio 🙂
