Have you been experiencing some gallbladder pain? Pain is never pleasant to deal with, especially when it’s a symptom of an underlying medical issue.
This organ has a big place in the spiritual and alternative medicine world, with several spiritual meanings and emotions attached to it.
Let me show you…
What is the Gallbladder?
The gallbladder is an interesting organ because not all animals have them. Humans have them, but they don’t always need them.
In fact, if the organ starts causing problems, many doctors would be happy to ‘whip it out’ (surgically and properly, of course), to prevent any future problems from happening.
The small organ, only around 2.8 to 3.9 inches (7 to 10 cm), can be found directly beneath the liver. It has three sections, and it works with the liver to digest food.
The liver first produces bile, then passes it to the gallbladder through a tube known as the ‘common hepatic duct’.
It is stored here until the digestive system is alerted to fatty foods.
Once the liver gives the go-ahead, the gallbladder then passes bile to the duodenum, this time through a tube known as ‘common bile duct’.
This is where the bile gets to work at breaking down the fats to allow them to be absorbed by the body.
Your right side and left side of the body carry different spiritual meanings. Don’t ignore what your body is trying to tell you.
Is the Gallbladder Related to Spirituality?
If you were to travel to different parts of the world, you might get a slightly different answer to this question.
In China, for example, traditional Chinese medicine (also known as TCM) focuses on the idea that the gallbladder is linked to things like:
- Making decisions;
- Aches and pains in the muscles and joints;
- Having good/bad judgement;
- Strength and courage;
- Confidence;
- Problems with the digestive system.
The gallbladder in TCM is also thought to be closely linked to another organ: the liver, and it is believed that problems with the two come hand-in-hand.
If you experience gallbladder problems, you are also likely experiencing liver problems, too. (Whether or not you know about it.)
What Emotions are Stored in the Gallbladder?
In the same way that the liver and gallbladder are linked in the body, they are thought to be linked in other ways, such as spiritual ways.
The gallbladder will store bile which can then be released when the liver decides it is needed.
The liver makes the decisions, essentially, and the gallbladder carries out the plan.
Because of this, the two organs are believed to oversee making decisions and carrying those decisions out.
When one or both of the organs starts malfunctioning, so do your decision-making and execution skills.
In turn, the gallbladder is linked to, or ‘holds’ a range of emotions.
Anger:
When things don’t go your way in life, it’s easy to become angry.
Why isn’t life treating you fairly? Why does everyone seem to catch a break but you? Have you done something wrong in a past life to deserve it?
How could you not feel angry when it feels like you’re being personally and viciously attacked by the universe, life, and everything else in-between?
In reality, the anger you feel is somewhat misplaced.
The reason you’re angry is because you’re making bad decisions, and that’s because one of your twelve ‘TCM medians’ is blocked, not flowing properly, or has otherwise malfunctioned.
Joy:
In exactly the opposite direction as anger, sometimes your gallbladder can also be symbolic or spiritually linked to joy.
You would feel joy in situations where you make good decisions, and you are thought to make good decisions when your gallbladder and liver are working well, and in harmony.
Worry:
When the gallbladder is not working as it should, you might start to feel unwell. This will, of course, lead you to worry.
What’s wrong with you? Have you got Covid again? What if it’s something else, something more serious?
Making decisions may also make you worry.
I hate making decisions because it means I need to be responsible for whatever happens as a result.
Responsibility is a big weight on the shoulders, and it can lead to all sorts of emotions – worry, stress, anxiety, and more.
Pensiveness:
There’s no wonder you’re anxious and hesitant to do things or make decisions when your gallbladder is not working optimally.
You’re not supposed to make big decisions when you’re feeling stressed, anxious, pensive, etc. When emotions are running high, you are likely to act in ways you normally wouldn’t.
Sadness:
When the gallbladder is blocked, energy isn’t able to flow in and out as it should.
The anger can’t get out, nor can the sadness, anxiety, aggression, or other negative emotions.
Just like the negative energy cannot get out, positive energy cannot get in – and we need positive energy in order to feel happy and content.
We must experience happiness. What is life without happiness?
We all know what happens when we don’t have enough happiness in our lives, too.
We get sad, and that sadness can grow and grow until it becomes an all-consuming problem that we can’t face or brush away.
9 Gallbladder Spiritual Meanings and Messages
The gallbladder has meanings when it appears in dreams and in real life, but the different circumstances will affect and alter the outcome of the spiritual meaning or message. Why don’t we take a closer look?
1) This Stone Will Pass (Perhaps)
Before surgery is looked at to remove gallstones or improve gallbladder function, medical professionals will wait and see if the problem can and will resolve itself naturally.
The passing process is a painful one, but eventually, it does sometimes pass.
It’s just like the difficult patch in your life right now. It will pass. It does pass. Haven’t all those other bad patches passed?
What you’re going through right now, doesn’t define who you are as a person.
The decisions you make when you’re stressed, grieving, upset, anxious, or angry are not the same decisions you’d make in a rational state of mind.
That applies to everyone. But… the bad moments do pass. The good moments do come. It’s a cycle, just like the cycle of life.
2) Are You Being Aggressive Without Realizing?
The gallbladder is an organ well linked and associated with anger and aggression, so pain in your gallbladder could be symptomatic of being too aggressive and angry in your life.
Have you been unnecessarily cruel to a work colleague or romantic partner? Maybe you’ve recently fallen out with a family member?
I know it’s hard to admit fault… but could it have been the case that you were slightly too testy with them, and the situation could have been resolved or handled differently?
It’s also common to feel pain in your knees when you’re around that person.
3) You Don’t Actually Need a Gallbladder
You can live a long, healthy, and happy life without a gallbladder.
Your body can function perfectly well without it, which is why medical professionals will often remove it via surgery when there is a medical issue that could prove to be ongoing.
What does this mean spiritually, though? It’s simple.
You don’t need your gallbladder. Could there be something or someone in your life that you don’t need?
Maybe there’s some negative energy hanging around your home, or a bad taste in your mouth following an interaction with a friend or acquaintance.
Either way, maybe it’s time to remove it from your life. You don’t need a scalpel to do that; you just need to set proper boundaries that work for you.
Just like the gall bladder might keep giving you problems if it isn’t removed, that thing or person might continue to give you stress and trouble.
4) Dreaming of Your Gallbladder
Dreaming of your gallbladder could refer to several things, including:
- Having it taken out via surgery or other means;
- Having a conversation with an oversized version of your own organ (dreams are sometimes weird, right?!);
- Having pain in the gallbladder or suspecting gallbladder issues;
- Being diagnosed with gallbladder problems by a medical professional;
- Being given the all-clear from gallbladder-related medical issues;
- And more!
What happens in the dream will play a big factor in the spiritual meaning, message, or outcome.
Most spiritualists believe that dreaming of your gallbladder is symbolic of having something negative inside you that you need to get out.
The gallbladder’s function is to store bile. This is released by the liver when the body needs to break down foods that are high in fat.
5) Having Your Gallbladder Removed
If you have a dream that your gallbladder is surgically removed, or you actually end up having to have surgery on that organ, the universe (or your inner self/somewhere else) might be trying to send you a very simple and very clear message:
Whatever is causing negativity in your life, needs to be removed… and pronto!
You may not find happiness unless you do.
6) You’ve Been Avoiding a Decision
It’s hard to make decisions when you’re not feeling confident. Avoiding making decisions harms you in the long run, though.
The weight will play heavy on your mind until you’ve finally done it, and by the time you actually do it, you’ll have no idea how you really feel because you’ll have worked yourself up so much about it.
Could your gallbladder pain or discomfort be related to the decision you’re avoiding?
I’m just saying… making the decision might just alleviate some of that discomfort!
7) Someone is trying to Manipulate You
This could be the message behind a dream featuring a rotten gallbladder.
It could also indicate that someone else is trying to control your decision-making process, leaving little room for following your own intuitions and instincts.
If you’re struggling to understand who that person is, try to listen to your body signs. You might feel chest pain when you’re near them.
8) Strong Gallbladder Meaning
Those who are said to possess strong gallbladders are often the ones most likely to take risks and embrace change without hesitation.
According to Chinese medicine, this body organ is responsible for making decisions in difficult situations.
Its strength influences one’s ability to make quick decisions with confidence and courage.
Those who have a strong bladder may be more accepting of change as they trust their judgment and feel prepared for whatever comes their way.
9) Weak Gallbladder Spiritual Meaning
A person with a weak gallbladder might be more inclined to hesitate or avoid taking action when faced with something new.
They can become overwhelmed by fear of the unknown and uncertainty, making it difficult for them to move forward without feeling discouraged or anxious.
Gallbladder Pain Spiritual Meaning
Gallbladder pain could be a spiritual sign that you need to be a little kinder to yourself.
Your gallbladder is stressed to the point it is starting to cause you serious problems, and that’s the time to take a step back, heal, recover, and then reboot.
Sometimes it doesn’t matter what decisions you make; things will spiral out of control anyway.
You can only do your best. Always remember that. Let’s say it again: You can only do your best!
Gallbladder pain is more than just a physical issue. It can be an indication of a blocked energy flow in the body and a sign that your third chakra, which is responsible for personal power, is out of balance.
The third chakra, or solar plexus chakra is located in the upper abdomen.
This chakra plays an important role in how we feel about ourselves and our ability to manifest our wants and needs.
It could also be a sign of spiritual awakening if you’re also feeling stomach pain.
As you could see, the gallbladder is associated with your emotions. If you’re holding on to something and not able to let it go, you’ll keep feeling that pain.
Take some time to appreciate yourself as a person and stop being so harsh. The universe is telling you to live more and love yourself more.
It’s time to start listening to what your body is trying to tell you. Otherwise, your pain won’t end and it only gets worse. Let go of what’s been hurting you.
Passionate about spirituality, numerology and spiritual accounts. I write about my spiritual experiences to help all those who go through the same.
It looks like there are several places where the word “bladder” is included, but it sounds like it should be “gall bladder” instead. The first time, i thought maybe it actually meant bladder, but the context in the rest especially would indicate gallbladder.
Overall, interesting article. I knew about anger, maybe sadness, but not about joy and some of the other aspects.
Hi Jorge,I enjoyed reading this…very informative and helpful.Could you provide some insight on the emotions and the actual removal of the gallbladder.I had mine removed but then horriɓle bloating and other digestion issues occured.It ls more painful than when I actually had the gallstone.Why does one end up without a gallbladder (spiritually)?
Hi I had a dream of removing this gallbladder from my body what does this mean. Thanks
